About us
Formation of Energy Agency in Nitra was conditioned by the current state of energy, which is a crucial factor of sustainable economic development of the state and its regions. Almost continuous rise of prices of fossil fuels, the environmental consequences of their extensive use, high dependence on imported energy sources and the associated risks are increasing the attention to issues of efficient usage of existing resources, reduction of energy intensity and focus on renewable sources. It is necessary to understand this issue as a necessity and in the same time as the call for comprehensive solutions opening space for the implementation of both cost-effective measures which may mean new investment incentives, new incentives for business development, new job opportunities but also a space promoting innovations, where especially research capacities can find application .
Energy Agency in Nitra was formed as a centre of implementation of new EU energy policy, which set the goal that 20% of the gross energy consumption in EU by the year 2020 will be secured from renewable energy sources and in the same time will save at least 20% of total energy consumption.
These ambitious targets of EU are realized through the relevant directives, regulations, programs and instruments. In Slovakia it is realized through the legislation in the field of energy, Energy security strategy, the Strategy of higher utilization of renewable energy and Energy efficiency action plan of SR. Energy Agency in Nitra will pay attention to energy efficiency - rational use of energy, increasing the usage of renewable energy in relation of protecting and improving the environment. This idea should become a matter of all citizens and the issue of their permanent and growing concern.
