Hungary – Slovakia Cross-border Co-operation Programme 2007-2013

The city of Nitra in the cooperation with Nitra Energy Agency prepared a project entitled „Study of the use of waste as a renewable source of energy with a focus on biogas stations in the region of Nitra and Budapest Főváros” within the Hungary – Slovakia Cross-border Co-operation Programme 2007-2013". On 26th-27thApril 2010 HU-SK Monitoring Committee decided to support the project.

The project is part of the city activities related to the fulfillment of the Covenant of Mayors which the city on Nitra joined in 2008. It  is a variant of a comprehensive recovery of waste for energy purposes for the city of Nitra and its area.
In particular:
- reducing the cost of waste disposal
- reducing emissions from landfills
- reduction of CO2 from transport
- reduction of pollution in the environment area.

Project activities are aimed mainly at business meetings to exchange experience in energy policy, analysis processing waste types to obtain renewable energy sources, publicity of renewable energy sources.

The output of the joint project will be the study about the efficient use of energy from waste and support of renewable sources.
